Natural Selection 2 (NS2) "ESL Launch Tournament"

http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/news/2012/10/esl_launch_tournament

"On November 10, some of the best players in the Natural Selection 2 beta will have the opportunity to go head to head, live and in person, at the ESL studios in Cologne, Germany."

Natural Selection 2 combines a team leader that plays the game as a RTS, with the rest of the team that plays as FPS.

This is a game I am very excited about, for many reasons, but one is that I have long had an interest in Self Defense, Military History, Combat, Martial Arts, etc and one of the things that I learned early is that Unit Coordination (ie how well individuals in a unit communicate and work together as a team) is really a force multiplier.

This game is the first one that I know of in Esports that looks like it will really emphasize that element, while at the same time be very enjoyable to spectate.

Natural Selection 2 (NS2) Release Date Oct 31, 2012

Natural Selection 2 (NS2) is a very interesting Team game, each team has a Commander that plays the games as a RTS, while the other team members plays as FPS.

They have announced release date of October 3, 2012 full info at http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/news/2012/10/natural_selection_2_release_date

Lot of things I like about this game, I like the blend of RTS with FPS, lets friends with different preferences and skills to play together with more enjoyment.

People with physical handicaps or health issues, like myself, run into physical barriers/ceilings often with competitive games, aside from board games.

I think this game provides an opportunity to lot of people that would like to compete seriously but because of physical limitation can't ever place.

I really like a some of the game play elements, I really like the Aliens 3 dimensional movement, that and the importance of team communications have real relevance to real life.

Yeah I know most gamers don't care about real life elements, but I do coaching and instruction in more than one field.

Teaching people to be situationally aware, especially to things above them is difficult, having people play a game were aliens drop on their head should fix that quickly ^_^

Desert Stormfront RTS game for Android, Windows, Linux, & Mac

A serious RTS game for Android, also available for Windows, Linus, or Mac, but not iOS.

From reviews I have read this game sounds great for serious RTS gamers, but has steep learning curve, and probably not good choice for total RTS Noobs.

More info available at his forum http://www.multiplayerhub.com/board/

The game requires Android OS 2.0 or higher and a minimum screen resolution of 800x480px.

LITE version available for free, links below.

Earlier version of this game, set in Island maps, called Tropical Stormfront is also available.

The Dev's site http://www.noblemaster.com/

Though I always suggest getting apps from Google's store or Amazon for security (nothing against his or any Dev's storefront, I am just very careful about downloads, YMMV), downloads for Android, Windows, Linux, & Mac are available direct at http://www.operationstormfront.com/purchase.html

Natural Selection 2 (NS2) is a team game with one player on each team as "leader" with RTS role, while rest of the team plays FPS.

Currently in Beta, a game I am real interested in, since it combines strategy & tactics in far more complex ways than any other games of which I am aware.

For more info see link at top or earlier post of my with VOD (trailer) http://cliffsesportcorner.blogspot.com/2012/08/natural-selection-2-ns2-exosuit-trailer.html

Natural Selection 2 (NS2) Exosuit Trailer

For more information click http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/news/2012/08/exosuit_revealed

Below is cut and past from information posted with embedded Youtube VOD
http://youtu.be/re9sqgeWFDM
"Natural Selection 2 is a hybrid shooter/strategy game that pits two asymmetrical sides against each other. It is currently in beta testing, and you can join the beta by pre-ordering at www.naturalselection2.com.

On September 4, pre-orders will become available on the Steam Store. At this time, instant beta access for pre-order will end. Natural Selection 2 will release in the very near future, soon after Steam pre-orders become available.

Natural Selection 2 runs on our very own engine, called Spark. This trailer was created using the Spark Cinematic Editor. The SCE is a little bit like Source Filmmaker, though not as sophisticated. The SCE, and our other development tools, are included with the game.

These tools include map editor, script editor, animation tools, and more. Because the NS2 game code is open source, anyone can create mod content for NS2, or even entirely new games on Spark."

PSA: Social Engineering (Security) NATO & You

I read on ZDNet today, about a Social Engineering attack on NATO using Facebook, that story also referenced this link from The Guardian.

[Edited to add, see also this story on Sony dealing with Hacking problems & Security.]

I cover IT and related security issues from time to time, even though this is a Starcraft 2 blog, because I know IT security is a real issue for anyone that uses computers and the internet.

I have had personal identity information stolen a couple of times already, and I have friends that have had gaming accounts hacked.

Not to mention some professionals in Esports, Mrs. Violence & JP McDaniel to name two that I know for certain that have been hacked.

I felt this was worth mentioning, both as a reminder, but also to make people think.

According to ZDNet "senior British military officers, Defense Ministry officials, and other government officials" were fooled by this attack.

All of those people receive some training in the basics of information security, controlling access to information that is not just IT, yet they fell victim to this attack.

Makes me think that not only do people need to learn more about security, they also need to practice good security habits more often.

If your interested in learning more about IT Security click Security or Hacking, those Labels can also be found at left side of Blog in the Label Cloud.

Check Six,
