Nerd News: Changes in MLG Silver Membership

Seems like there is a lot of confusion about this so I am cut and pasting message on TL thread about this

From  MLG-Kyle   http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewpost.php?post_id=13376377:
"Hey guys,

I'd like to step in and clear things up.

The goal with our product lineup for 2012 is to enable our fans to pay for exactly what they want. In 2011, our products were very convoluted and bundled GameBattles and video features together. We've found our audience tends to only care about one or the other, so we're restructuring our products in order to facilitate those wants.

Our Silver Membership was one of the biggest culprits. We found that there was about a 70%-30% split in terms of the product. A large majority of Silver Members were using the pass to compete on GameBattles, while another significant portion of Silver Members only cared about watching MLG Video in HD.

In order to set fair prices for our products, we need to create products let users pay for only the features they are interested in. That is why we are removing Silver Membership and replacing it with products that focus specifically on one interest.

As I said above, most of our Silver Members were interested in competing on GameBattles. Rather than force every single user to sign up for a brand new product, we thought it would be best to message our users in advance of the change and give them the option to opt out of the membership moving forward.

We're still in the process of refining our product listing for 2012, and this is just the beginning. For those of you who are interested in video, rest assured, there will be products released specifically to suit your interests. In the meantime, I suggest you opt out of renewals on this product moving forward.

For those of you who are less than excited by this change, as you renewed recently with the understanding that you would be able to watch our Columbus Championship Event in HD, please submit an e-mail through https://support.majorleaguegaming.com/customer/portal/emails/new with your MLG Username and we will happily refund your $9.99 as long as it was set to expire after our Columbus Championship Event (meaning your last renewal must have been on or after December 23rd).

In the end, our goal is to make our products easier to understand, and allow you to pay for exactly what you are interested without any fluff. This is the beginning of the process that will allow us to do that.

Thank you for understanding.

Sincerely, The MLG Product Team

I hope the helps, I know I get frustrated trying to navigate MLG's website, I generally have to resort to TL threads or Google to find anything on it.

State of the Game leaving MLG

SOTG and MLG are parting ways, full story here http://sotg-sc2.blogspot.com/2012/01/back-to-our-roots.html

"When the show debut's next Thursday, January 19th, we will be going live at our new time, 7:00 p.m. EDT"

I think he will be streaming SOTG at his twitch channel http://www.twitch.tv/itmejp but Tweeted him asking for conformation.  Lookes like the stream will be http://www.twitch.tv/stateofthegame

JP will be posting VOD's of the show at http://www.youtube.com/user/itmeJP/featured

I wish JP and the rest of the SOTG crew success on their new path.

MLG Hotpockets link to redeem your code

[updated 19:25 EST]

http://store.majorleaguegaming.com/hotpockets

If you got a code from the eat play win for free month of Silver MLG membership this is link used to redeem code.  It should be in the email they send you with it.

Note if your having problems the code may not be active until a day or so after you get it.  Or you may have to log in  and out. Or log in and then manually go back to above link to enter your code for free month.

From what I have heard it can be a little annoying, after the above you will still have to go to your Membership area https://accounts.majorleaguegaming.com/account/membership
after getting the free silver membership activated to get your event/stream Voucher code.

Then enter that in stream when you select high video quality settings (selecting high video just gets the window to popup so you can enter voucher number).

Lot of steps.

I know lot of people have difficulty with navigation on MLG's website.  It isn't user friendly at all, I find googling for page I want on MLG website works far better than trying to navigate in the site itself.

Note sure I have covered it fully, but did what I could.  Hope this helps.

Feel free to post questions or help in the comments section.  You don't have to have Blogger account to post on my blog.  Actually unless I have problems with spam I will continue to allow people to post anonymously.

I added a twitter gadget to bottom of this blog for the event, will show tweets related to the event.  Also helps to figure what is going on when MLG has a technical problem which they usually do.
